A28 SPEED LIMITS TO BE REDUCED – August 2011

The project to reduce the speed limits on the A28 at Bethersden was started in 2009, with a working party appointed by the Parish Council, to include two councillors and seven people who live along the A28. The project involved a detailed analysis of traffic volumes and type and resulted in the publication  of a detailed report which was presented to Kent CC and Ashford BC. The proposals were generally agreed and led to a two stage project.

Stage 1. The 40mph speed limit on the A28 has already been extended westwards towards High Halden.

Stage 2. Kent CC  has agreed to reduce the speed limit on the A28 through the village to
30 mph, and to introduce speed reduction enhancements, including two informal pedestrian crossing points. This has been through public consultation, and  is due to be implemented in September 2011. Our County Councillor, Richard King, is sponsoring this work.

The next step is to work on extending the 40mph to the east,  towards Ashford, i.e. past the Woodchurch turning.
