The Weald of Kent Protection Society (WKPS) was founded in 1960. The Bethersden Village Society is an Affiliate Member. Whilst the first responsibility of the WKPS is to safeguard the small towns and rural aspects of the 220 square miles of its area, it recognises that some development must take place and seeks to ensure that this development is in keeping, in scale and design, with its setting. It maintains strong links with local government, particularly related to planning issues. It is funded entirely by its members.
